The Red Squirrel was also a fan of the feeders on the
farm. To get to them it often traveled along the sill of
the picture window that runs the length of the living room.
On one trip I watched it stop to survey a blooming orchid
on another trip it exchanged looks with the family dog.
"When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free."

Hi Guy! We don't have little Red Squirrels here. I wish we did! Their little ears melt my heart! So adorable. I enjoyed the quote too. It's beautiful.
I do like squirrels and this one seems quite obliging
Hi Kelly
The Red Squirrels are such characters that I do love them. They also have beautiful markings and they seem even more prone to mischief than the greys. The poem by Berry is one of my favorites.
Thanks for visiting.

Hi Jan
He does look relaxed doesn’t he, like a little Buddha? Of course Red Squirrels go through life with a bear sized portion of moxie and chutzpah so that helps.
Regards
Guy
I love the little squirrel and the poem!
Hi Kathie
She/He was a very charming little fellow not as assertive,as normal for a Red Squirre, of course no one was bothering it either.
