"Every morning
the world
is created.
Under the orange

sticks of the sun
the heaped
ashes of the night
turn into leaves again

and fasten themselves to the high branches ---"

from Morning Poem
Mary Oliver

"Near me, I saw
a single cricket;
it was moving the grains of the hillside

this way and that way.
How great was its energy,
how humble its effort.
Let us hope

it will always be like this,
each of us going on
in our inexplicable ways
building the universe."
from Song of the Builders
by Mary Oliver

To my way of thinking it would be difficult to find a more elegant poet than Mary Oliver. She is so descriptive, so concise with words, and makes writing art.

Hi Bill

I have to agree her use of poetic technique is not really elaborate and her language is unpretentious
compared to some other poets but as you saw the results are elegant. I always find the imagery is spot on for the subject and overall the mood and feeling are quite memorable.

Thanks
Guy

Cute photos. Did you have a long lingering hummingbird up there? Love the poems.
