“The world is big and I want to have a
good look at it before it gets dark.”
John Muir
I went to the pond by the office last week.
Before work and again a lunch, the usual gang
was there. But there was also an unexpected addition,
I have never seem a shore bird there before.
Spotted Sandpiper
These American Wigeons came a considerable distance
across the pond when I sat down waiting for a handout
I suspect. The odd thing was the male had his eyes closed
a lot of the time. At this point he has just bumped into her
and a received a look in response.
As always the Mallards put on a show.
"I heard the spring wind whisper
Above the brushwood fire,
"The world is made forever
Of transport and desire.
"I am the breath of being,
The primal urge of things;
I am the whirl of star dust,
I am the lift of wings."

Wow, you got some nice shots. Were they all from the same place?
The only sandpiper I have seen close up was a tiny one, and I don't know what it was. Shore birds are another thing I need to study up on.
Hi Sandy
Yes they are all at the small pond a couple of blocks from where I work. The Mallards and Sandpiper were taken about 7:00 and the Wigeons at lunch. I am very lucky to have such a beautiful spot nearby.

I always love the bits of poetry you post with your photos for I read things I have never read before and feel as if I am being introduced to new friends. How interesting that you found a spotted sandpiper there for I just saw one on the Sandy River in Norridgewock Maine a little over a week ago!
HI Kathie
I am glad you like the poetry it is a big part of the blog for me and I really enjoy it when I find a new poet on another blog or someone reads a new one on mine. That is great you saw a sandpiper it is nice to think my friends and i are seeing the same birds, sort of sharing in the season.
